Welcome to South Freeport Congregational Church!
Located in a picturesque coastal Maine village, we are an Open and Affirming congregation with a mission to be a source of worship, service, education and healing for all.
At South Freeport Congregational Church you will discover a vibrant, warm, caring Christian community where all are welcome to experience God’s abundant love and grace, no matter who you are, or where you are along this journey of life.
Children and Families: We welcome all families! As a community of all generations, we thrive when our littlest ones gather with adults of all ages. On Sunday morning, children attend the worship service through the "Children's Moment" and then go to Sunday School for the remainder of the service. Nursery care is available for babies and toddlers from 9:15 am to the end of worship every Sunday. Our middle school students take part in Confirmation class. Our Christian Education Committee meets monthly to plan opportunities for parents and children to get together often to experience the love of God in a truly inter-generational community.
To ensure access for everyone, our building is handicap accessible. There are two to three handicap parking spaces in the front of the church building, and more handicap spaces available on Sunday mornings across the street at the French School via the crosswalk. The double entry doors to the church at the end of the walkway can be opened by a push button on the post to the right of the doors. All interior first floor spaces are accessible via ramps; and, there is a chair lift to the second floor.
The Church offices exist on the second floor. Our building also houses First Step Daycare on the first floor. During the week the building is bustling with activity of local children from birth to preschool as well as events held in our Community Hall by the French School and other community groups. Tai Chi and Zumba classes are also offered in the Community Hall each week. Everyone is welcome to church events and happenings. More information can be found under the "Gather" page in the menu above or calling the church office at the number below.
Our church facilities have two sets of single stall adult bathrooms on the first floor. The bathrooms outside the sanctuary are designated according to gender. The other bathrooms outside the Community Hall are not gender specific.
We welcome all people of any race, gender, nationality, ethnic origin, physical or mental ability or sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression. We recognize the rights of all people, just as Christ accepted all people he encountered. Believing that meeting each other in Christian Love, God's spirit frees us all to give, to grow, and to be ourselves.
If you would like to talk further about the programs and environment of our church, please give us a call! The church office is open Tuesdays through Fridays from 8 am to 4 pm.
