Kids will explore how their creativity can help them show love and compassion to themselves, each other, and the world!
Compassion Creativity Camp JUNE 17-21, 2024 The half-day FREE camp for kids runs from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon, Monday through Friday. NEW this Year: AFTERCARE is possible for kids who need to stay until 4 pm. Free program (donations welcome.) Ages 5 and up. Full of arts and crafts, games and fun, each day will have new activities and inspiration to learn "what every little thing needs". Building, creating, discovering, seeking, and describing the relationship among us, God, and creation we will learn the importance of developing empathy for others, and learn the value of being able to: "See your hurt. Feel your hurt. Help ease your hurt." At South Freeport Church we recognize that we need FUN, we all need LOVE, and we all need to be ACCEPTED just as we are! Join us this summer for an amazing week! Day 1: Monday, June 17th
Shelter Protects Life Participants will develop their skills of awareness as the first step in compassion by noticing how God provides shelter in the Bible. Word of the day: AWARENESS Mascot of the day: Hermione the Hermit Crab Activities may include: forest bathing, poetry writing, creating a shelter for your own imaginary animal. Day 2: Tuesday, June 18th Food Energizes Life Participants will practice gratitude for food by compassionately acknowledging the world God made. Word of the day: GRATITUDE Mascot of the day: Havarti the Hippo Activities may include: starting a garden, play a food chain chase game, go on a gratitude scavenger hunt. Day 3: Wednesday, June 19th Water Hydrates Life Participants will seek wonderment in the power and vulnerability of water by learning about the cycles of God’s life-giving resource and how we need to protect it compassionately. Word of the day: WONDER Mascot of the day: Jordan the Jellyfish Activities may include: interpreting the language of water, sing a song about living water, build your own aquifer in a cup. Day 4: Thursday, June 20th Air Sustains Life Participants will explore reciprocity in the function of air by seeing their own breath as the sign of God’s Spirit that breathes in them and how the world’s influence on the air affects what they receive through it. Word of the day: RECIPROCITY Mascot of the day: Cornetin the Colungo Activities may include: make a giant pinwheel or windmill, learn how composting works, practice mindful breathing techniques. Day 1: Friday, June 21st Community Produces Life Participants will identify their kinship with the world by understanding their membership in, and connection with, the diverse “neighborhood” of God’s creation. Word of the day: KINSHIP Mascot of the day: Zoe the Zooid Activities may include: come together as a group to sing hallelujahs, play a "knowing my neighbor" game, create a community group art project. Every camper will take home a goody bag of great resources at the end of the week. Ages 5 and up are welcome! Older kids are encouraged to come and help out too!
